All aboard..I doubt it

Tuesday 21st June 2022

Who are the railway strikes for? Whom do they benefit? And would you like ‘agency staff’ operating the signals? I think the government has a long way to go ,to get up to speed with the alternative workforce to take over the complete running of the railways, If we are employed , either the lucky things employed by the state, or the chancers employed by ‘the private sector’, if we are employed, we are the ‘workers’. And yet the persons who vote to stop the railways are doing it for the ‘workers’. Really ?  So the rail unions are stopping…

Shameless showing off..

Sunday 7th March 2021

Just 24 hours before the most explosive and revealing media interview of all time, as Oprah probes the Sussexes, another act of shameless self-publiicity will hit the airwaves. Boom Radio, the internet sensation that plays to the baby-boomer generation has managed to secure an exclusive hour with global economic commentator and failed rock star Michael Wilson. Wilson reveals, among many other insights into a glittering media career, how he really should have occupied  the international rock stage, but instead got his ‘O’ levels, and what exactly his part was in the downfall of the Soviet Union and the rise of…

AA driving me crazy

Wednesday 9th December 2020

Cars don’t go wrong these days. Your little eco friendly Pious may have slithered into non drive mode over the pandemic, but give it a Guardian in the side pocket and some dull nodding teenagers obsessed into their flat friend screens, a little key action will probably  hum it into action. You’ll forgive, therefore, the petrolocracy, who’ve been driving you around for a long time. We are those persons in cars – we fill them up at petrol stations and have been sometimes guilty of buying flowers for our beloveds from the same.  All good then – until, as an…

It’s not the shot in the arm you think

Tuesday 10th November 2020

As one of my guests on the JazzFM Business Breakfast show this morning said, the general euphoria over a possible vaccine for Covid was like a back to the future time warp. The financial markets danced to the rhythm of the FOMO – the fear of missing out  –  without any thought for any realism, just as they did last year.  Such was the mood yesterday that suddenly the ‘work and play at home’ tech stocks like Zoom, fitness  and online shopping  took a bit of a beating, and the bombed out sectors like airlines, travel, leisure,  and banks had…

Lock down the experts

Monday 28th September 2020

The Ark was built by amateurs, the Titanic was built by experts. Our governing politicians are in thrall to the ‘advice’ of ‘experts’, who have no skin in the game – apart of course from polishing their own credentials.  Lockdowns are becoming two hundred dollar solutions to two dollar problems. Neither of the Vallance/Whitty duopoly has any front-line work experience in the private sector. I’ll give you that Sir Patrick Vallance worked for GlaxoSmithKline as senior vice president in medicine discovery and development.   But I’m guessing the only cut and thrust of survival was more lab-based than frantically trying…
